In our friendly, low-pressure classes, you’ll learn the essential building blocks of art, just like you would grammar and vocabulary in a new language. You’ll build a strong foundation in drawing, composition, and understanding light before you explore mediums like watercolours, acrylics, and oils.
We’re here to give you the skills and confidence to find your own unique creative voice. We’ll be with you on every step of your artistic journey!
You and your art classes
Art classes can be a rewarding experience for anyone who has a desire to learn and create. Your involvement, interest, and open-mindedness are key to enjoying and benefiting from these classes.
To get the most out of your art classes, consider creating a content file on your phone that showcases your preferences in terms of subject matter and artistic styles. This can help guide your artistic journey and allow your instructor to provide tailored advice.
In these classes, we’ll cover art fundamentals, explore various content and techniques, and embrace all creative styles. The teaching approach is structured, offering step-by-step guidance from start to finish in your artworks.
Art Class Structure
Join us at our cozy art studios in Fourways or Kempton Park! With just 7 to 10 students per class, we focus on a one-on-one approach. Your teacher will get to know you and your artistic goals, building a fun, productive relationship to help you grow.
Art Classes for the beginner
Our foundation course covers a wide spectrum of artistic skills and concepts, from the very basics of drawing a line to more advanced techniques in composition and shading.
You’ll learn how to analyze and interpret pictures, deciding what elements to include and what to leave out to create beautiful artworks.
Creating art involves
Your Hand
The artist’s hand is a remarkable tool, combining skill, intuition, and emotion to bring visions to life. The hand is lead by the artist’s eyes, intellect, and heart.
Your Eyes
Art relies on visual perception; your eyes record and guide creative decisions. They gather information about shapes, colors, and textures, informing your artistic choices and expressions.
Your Brain
The mind is crucial in creativity, guiding our hands to turn observations into art. It’s where inspiration comes from, driving innovation and shaping meaningful works.
The Foundation course
This course will not only to teach you to draw, it will also teach you to observe and calculate scale, space and proportion, and values (dark and light).
You will have little projects to complete in pencils, charcoal, and pastels, exploring and learning these mediums.
The program starts with a general introduction of form and values, then teaches you to draw from a picture as well as life.
There is room for changes after the basics are covered. The course suits beginners, with options for intermediate and advanced learners.
The Advanced Drawing Course
artists with a passion for super-realism. You’ll master meticulous rendering with a variety of materials, including pencil, ink, charcoal, conte crayon, and oil pastels. We’ll guide you through complex challenges like proportioning, scale, perspective, negative drawing, and contour drawing, helping you sharpen your eye and your skills.
Painting
Ready to dive into the world of painting? Our courses cover a wide range of techniques to help you master your favourite medium. For oils, you’ll learn everything from preparing your canvas to mastering techniques like blending, impasto, and glazing. You’ll also explore colour theory and composition. When working with acrylics, you’ll get a feel for this fast-drying medium, whether you use it as a base for oils or as a standalone medium. And for watercolours, you’ll explore the beauty of this delicate medium with techniques like washes, wet-on-wet, and creating unique textures. No matter your experience, we’ll help you gain a deep understanding of each medium and the skills you need to succeed.
Sculpture Classes
The art of touch. This course covers many possibilities in experimenting with different materials And techniques. Materials includes clay, concrete, plaster, wire, paper, polystyrene, wood, and stone. You also will be taught to build an inner structure called an armature to create onto.
Other techniques like assemblage, carving and so on can also be taught.
Mixed Media
it’s very exciting to experiment with combining dry and wet media and layering with various materials, adding depth and fun to the process. While canvas-based work is our primary focus, we explore a vast array of materials, including textured and dimensional media, along with traditional mediums
Mixed media includes almost anything, from soft pastels and pigments, coffee and oil, paint, enameling and encaustic (wax-based) art. Other techniques like assemblage, carving and so on can also be taught.
