Painting Classes for You, and everyone else

Painting classes are presented at all my studios and is definitely a favourite with the students. Painting makes you feel like a complete artist. Brush in hand, a palette full of colour and a blank canvas or paper quickly takes you back to the joys of childhood. Colours, vivid and pasty, the touch of the brush to a surface that relents to its’ charm. You can join one of my painting classes to learn everything there is to know about it.

Paints

There are 3 main types of paints I can teach you:

  1. OILS or oil based media like oil sticks.
  2. ACRYLICS or water based textured paint like PVA, tempera and chalky gouache. Many varieties and new hybrids exists today.
  3. WATER COLOUR pasty tubes or blocks and Inks.

Colour Painting Classes

Irrespective of your paint of choice, if you don’t understand colour your painting will always look like that of an amateur.  You cannot squeeze paint from a tube and expect it to harmonize with nature – you need to know what to do with it.  Whether darker, lighter or neutralized, you need to know how to obtain these mixes and tints of colours by adding the correct colours together.  Knowing how to mix brown or beige won’t help you here, you need to be able to interpret it as a whole. You also need to be able to analyze colour. These skills I can teach you in my painting classes.

I have a simplified system with a limited palette that recreates most colours.

Once again, OBSERVATION is key.  You will look with new enthusiasm at everything around you as you discover their inherit combinations.

This is what I teach you first in a painting class, irrespective paint or preference or knowledge.

COLOUR OBSERVATION – usually 3 painting lessons
  1. Basics and Practice
  2. Exploration
