EXOTIC COLOUR-PORTRAIT WORKSHOP
16 AND 17 DECEMBER 2023
AJAY’S ART KEMPTON PARK
Portraiture in art is fascinating. The reason for that is not hard to find. In summary, the purpose of painting portraits is multifaceted, encompassing historical documentation, personal remembrance, artistic expression, and the exploration of human identity and emotion.
Recently fake colours have been added to portrait painting. This is hardly suprising, since people reside in many coloured moods and innuendos. The artist reacts to this subconciously, as well as environmentally with AI, contemporary art and design and fashion trends.
I have designed a two-day workshop for this very popular topic. You will explore the basics of portraiture in oils or acrylics – like skintones and facial features like the eyes, nose and mouth. Then you can include colour and palette knife techniques to enhance your portrait.
Although your portrait needs to be drawn before you start, there are options to facilitate this. See the special in table below.
The process of this workshop has various steps, such as:
1. Explaining the process as well as the various techniques involved.
2. General colour mixing for skin tones, light-and-dark values and general planning.
3. Features like the eyes, nose and mouth, and the procedures to paint them.
4. Palette knife painting.
5. Alternative techniques that you can use according to the effects you want.
This process can be repeated in any work you do; there are key principals that you need to stick to but it guarantees success.
It is enormously gratifying and enlightening.
